Liz James

Based in North Norfolk, Liz is an artist who works in a free, expressive style to capture the atmosphere of a place and time rather than geographical detail. Primarily using watercolour and acrylic she likes to experiment by incorporating other materials and mediums often using charcoal, pastel, pencil and sand to enhance her paintings.

The beautiful Norfolk landscape is the main inspiration for her practice, in particular the beautiful coast around Cromer where she lives. Liz is particuarly interested in the way the weather and changing seasons mark the passage of time and affect the mood of the sea, sky and landscape.

Liz completed a BA Hons in Fine Art in the 1980s at Stourbridge in the West Midlands and, after several years working in marketing, returned to study an MA in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts in 2009.
